Mandated Functions
 
Point Observe, monitor and review the handling and investigation of reportable complaints and monitor the actions taken or to be taken in respect of any police officer by the Police in connection with reportable complaints;
Point Identify any fault or deficiency in police practices or procedures which has led or might lead to complaints and make recommendations in respect of such practices or procedures;
Point Require the Police to investigate or re-investigate reportable complaints, and provide other information as IPCC requires;
Point Require the Police to provide explanations in connection with the investigations, and information or materials in support of the explanations;
Point Advise or make recommendations to the Commissioner of Police or/and the Chief Executive as appropriate; and
Point Promote public awareness of the role of the Council.
